Our first journey on the tidal River Ouse was a day filled with nerves, fast-flowing water and plenty of lessons learned. Travelling from Selby to Naburn, we navigated powerful currents, winding bends, floating debris and the intimidating approach to Naburn Weir.
As we eased towards Selby, the character of the canal began to shift almost imperceptibly at first – hedgerows giving way to gardens, towpath walkers appearing more frequently and the quiet rhythm of the countryside slowly replaced by the edges of town life.
